Two films top the Oscars shortlist



The nominations for the 80th Academy Awards have been announced, with 'No Commonwealth for Old Men' and 'There Will Be Blood' leading the short list with eight nominations from each one.
'Atonement', 'Juno' and 'Michael Clayton' get likewise received numerous nominations.
As expected Wicklow resident Daniel Day-Lewis has been nominated for a Charles Herbert Best Doer Oscar for his performance in 'There Volition Be Blood'.
The other nominees for Best Actor are: George VI Clooney ('Michael Clayton'), Greyback Depp ('Sweeney Todd'), Tommy Rose Louise Hovick John Paul Jones ('In the Valley of Elah') and Viggo Mortensen ('Eastern Promises').
The Best Actress short list is: Cate Blanchett ('Elizabeth: The Golden Age'), Julie Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie ('Away from Her'), Marion Cotillard ('La Contend en Rose'), Laura Linney ('The Savages') and Ellen Page ('Juno').
The nominees for Best Supporting Actor ar: Casey Affleck ('The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Henry M. Robert Ford'), Javier Bardem ('No Nation for Old Men'), Duke of Edinburgh Jane Seymour Hoffman ('Charlie Wilson's War'), Hal Holbrook ('Into the Wild') and Tomcat Sir Geoffrey Wilkinson ('Michael Clayton').
Along with Irish whisky teen Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett ('I'm Not There'), Ruby Dee ('American Gangster'), Amy Ryan ('Gone Baby Gone') and Tilda Swinton ('Michael Clayton') have been nominated in the C. H. Best Supporting Actress family.
Shortlisted for Charles Herbert Best Director ar: Julian the Apostate Artur Schnabel ('The Diving event Bell and the Butterfly'), Jason Reitman ('Juno'), Tony Gilroy ('Michael Clayton'), Joel and Ethan Coen ('No Country for Old Men') and Paul Saint Thomas Carl Anderson ('There Will Be Blood').
The films nominated for Best Picture are: 'Atonement', 'Michael Clayton', 'No Country for Old Men', 'There Will Be Blood' and 'Juno'.
The 5 films nominated for Best Foreign Celluloid ar: 'The Counterfeiters' (Republic of Austria), 'Beaufort' (Yisrael), 'Katyn' (Poland), 'Mongol' (Kazakhstan) and '12' (Russian Federation).
The nominees for Best Infotainment Feature ar: 'No End in Sight', 'Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience', 'Sicko', 'Taxi to the Night Side' and 'War/Dance'. 
The nominees for Best Animated Film ar: 'Persepolis', 'Ratatouille' and 'Surf's Up'.
The nominees for C. H. Best Adapted Screenplay are: Christopher Lionel Hampton ('Atonement'), Sarah Polley ('Away from Her'), Ronald Harwood ('The Diving event Bell and the Butterfly'), Joel and Ethan Coen ('No Body politic for Old Men') and Paul Norman Thomas Anderson ('There Will Be Blood').
The nominees for Best Master Screenplay are: Diablo Cody ('Juno'), Nancy Oliver ('Lars and the Real Girl'), Tony Gilroy ('Michael Clayton'), January Pinkava, Jim Capobianco and Brad Dame ('Ratatouille') and Tamara Jenkins ('The Savages').
